Bothwell Medical Rooms is pleased to be able to offer a wide range of minor surgical procedures.
Minor surgery refers to small-scale surgical interventions and procedures. Many of these procedures are commonly carried out in office based settings or in community medical centres, minor injuries units, and health centres.
With minor surgery at Bothwell Medical Rooms, the recovery time is usually short and you will be back to your usual activities fairly quickly

Nanoscope Arthroscopic Surgery
Nanoscope arthroscopic surgery is revolutionising how patients experience in-office diagnosis and treatment for conditions such as arthritis and cartilage damage.
At Bothwell Medical Rooms, our specialist care providers can facilitate full visualisation of the joint, surrounding tissues, and areas that generally are problematic to capture with imaging technology.
The result is the availability of same-day diagnosis and minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. Arthrex’s Nanoscope technology is designed to allow experienced orthopedic surgeons to use advanced techniques, reduce the risks of secondary damage to joints and soft tissues and provide treatment in a comfortable office setting.
WALANT (Wide-Awake Local Anesthesia No Tourniquet)
WALANT is a new type of local anaesthesia for various hand and wrist surgery procedures.
Until recently, certain hand and wrist surgeries were performed using a tourniquet to control blood to improve the surgeon’s visibility of the operated area. Tourniquets, however, are uncomfortable and unpleasant for patients.
In the past, this discomfort was reduced by sedating patients with general anaesthetics. (General anaesthetics are used to cause a patient to remain unconscious during surgery.)
WALANT eliminates the need for tourniquets and general anesthesia (sedation) by using two medications administered locally for a safe, painless surgery. Lidocaine blocks pain, and epinephrine stops bleeding. Epinephrine acts as a vasoconstrictor to control bleeding, which is why the use of tourniquets can be eliminated during the procedure. While not every hand and wrist surgery can be performed with WALANT, there are many that qualify, some of which include:
- Nerve compression
- Tendon disorders or repairs
- Finger sensory block
- Soft-tissue Finger lesions
- Thumb MCP fusions
- Collateral ligament tears of the MCP joint
- Dupuytren contractures
- Flexor tendon repairs
- Trapeziectomy or Bennett fracture
- Metacarpal fractures
- Ligament repairs
- Fracture fixation
- Arthritic conditions
- Mass removal
Carpal tunnel release surgery
Carpal tunnel release surgery is an operation to relieve symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), including numbness, tingling and pain in your hand.
The operation involves dividing a ligament in your wrist to relieve pressure on a nerve that controls movement and feeling in your hand.
Open carpal tunnel surgery is a procedure used at Bothwell Medical Rooms to relieve the pressure on your medial nerve.
Trigger Finger Surgery
Trigger finger (stenosing tenosynovitis) is a condition that affects the tendon in the hand. The tendon can get stuck, which causes the finger/thumb to click or lock when bent towards your palm.
The procedure involves releasing the affected sheath to allow the tendon inside it to move freely again.
Trigger finger is more common in people with diabetes and people with rheumatoid arthritis.
Ganglion Cyst Surgery
A ganglion cyst is a fluid-filled noncancerous lump that usually develops in the wrist or hand. But some occur in the ankles or feet.
When a ganglion cyst presses on a nerve it can be painful. And depending on its location, a ganglion cyst may restrict movement.
Some cysts do not need treatment, but others must be surgically removed. During a ganglion cyst removal, our team at Bothwell Medical Rooms remove the cyst capsule or stalk to completely remove the cyst.
